Privacy Policy

Effective Date: April 4, 2026

Sound Safari is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains how we handle data in our speech therapy practice app.

The short version: We don't collect your data. Everything stays on your device.

Information We Collect

All data you enter — student profiles, session records, notes, and goals — remains on your device and optionally in your personal iCloud account. We do not collect personal information, device identifiers, location data, or advertising identifiers.

Homework Practice Sync

When parents complete homework practice on our web portal, anonymous practice scores (words correct, total attempted, accuracy percentage) are transmitted to our servers to sync progress with the therapist's app. No child's name, device identifier, or other personally identifying information is transmitted or stored. Results are automatically deleted after 90 days.

Anonymous Usage Statistics

We collect anonymous, aggregate usage statistics (such as which features are used and how often) to improve the app. These statistics cannot be linked to any individual user and contain no personal information. Because these statistics are anonymous, we cannot identify or delete data for specific users.

Data Storage

  • All data is stored locally on your device
  • Optional iCloud sync uses Apple's CloudKit with encryption in transit and at rest
  • No third-party cloud services are used
  • We do not operate any servers that store your data

When iCloud sync is enabled, your data is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy and stored in your personal iCloud account.

Third-Party Services

We do not share, sell, or transmit any data to third parties. Sound Safari has no analytics, advertising, or tracking services.

The app contains:

  • No third-party SDKs
  • No advertising frameworks
  • No analytics tools
  • No social media integrations
  • No external API calls

Children's Privacy

Sound Safari is designed for use by speech-language pathologists and caregivers. It is not intended for direct use by children. Any student data entered is at the therapist or caregiver's discretion.

We recommend using initials or student IDs instead of full names when entering student information.

We comply with COPPA (Children's Online Privacy Protection Act) by not collecting any data from children or any users.

Data Deletion

Users can delete individual student data or all data from the app's Settings. Deleted data is permanently removed from the device and iCloud. We have no ability to recover deleted data.

  1. Open Sound Safari
  2. Go to Settings
  3. Select the data you wish to delete
  4. Confirm deletion

Data Security

We recommend the following security practices:

  • Enable device encryption and strong passcodes
  • Use Face ID or Touch ID
  • Log out of shared devices after use
  • Periodically review and remove data for discharged students
  • Use student initials or IDs instead of full names

Data Architecture & Compliance

Sound Safari uses a local-first data architecture — your data stays on your device and syncs via Apple's iCloud, which maintains its own security certifications. We do not store, access, or process your data on our servers. A Business Associate Agreement (BAA) is not currently offered. If you work in a HIPAA-regulated environment, we recommend consulting your compliance officer to determine how Sound Safari fits within your organization's data policies.

Changes to This Policy

This privacy policy may be updated with app updates. Changes will be reflected in the app and on this page with an updated effective date. Continued use of Sound Safari after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
